Organizing a Landing/Launching Pad

by Tina on August 19, 2010

Do you forget to return library books, movies, and other borrowed items on time? Do you have to go back home on a busy morning to retrieve something that was supposed to go with you?  Your answer to this common problem is very simple. (Finally. :-)) You need a Landing/Launching Pad.

There should be a space in your home where you put things that are either “on their way in” or “on their way out.” That way, you only have one spot to look before you leave. And, when you get home, you can drop things there that must go back out the next day. No muss. No fuss.

Here’s a partial list of things to stage in your designated Landing/Launching Pad area. See which ones you need, and adapt your space using containers or furniture to hold the ones you’ll need to stage.

  • Keys
  • Purse
  • Sunglasses
  • Briefcase
  • Laptop/Messenger Bag
  • Returns: Library Books, Movies, Borrowed Items
  • Donate Bin (clothes, books, small appliances, etc.)
  • School Papers to Review/Sign
  • Bookbags
  • Outerwear (for cooler or inclement weather): rain boots, snow boots, scarves, gloves, hats, etc.

Just pick a place in your home (mudroom, front entry, etc.) and start putting your in/out items there. Then, train your family to do the same.

You will be able to clear your mind of all the things you once needed to remember to take with you tomorrow… and where they were located. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy your evening. You’ll be amazed at how much precious morning time this saves you. You can do this.

Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your supplies ready.’” Joshua 1:11 (New International Version)
